What is NDIS Intellectual Disability Care

Intellectual disability is used to describe a broad range of personal characteristics. It’s characterised by significant limitations that occur in intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviour.

To be diagnosed with intellectual disability an individual needs to have a reduced level of IQ and significant difficulty with skills needed for daily living activities. There are numerous disabilities that fall into this category, including; Down syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, and Prader-willi syndrome.

NDIS provides funding for persons with a permanent and significant intellectual disability. This funding can be used for support services to improve daily living and promote a greater level of independence.

Here at ANC we’re an experienced provider of a range of intellectual disability care services. As part of our comprehensive service we help to establish an independent living program that has been specifically tailored to meet an individual’s needs. The support we provide includes:

Daily living
○ Covers home care assistance for a variety of tasks such as personal care, meal planning, and medication support

Socialising
○ Encourage and support to get an individual exposure to new environments such as recreational activities and attending community events

Independent Living
○ Supports an individual gain a greater level of independence by building skills in general home tidiness, budgeting and financial assistance, and building connections with family and the greater community

Employment
○ Comprehensive support in preparing for, searching, securing and maintaining appropriate employment an individual desires

Group Activities
○ Assistance in forming relationships and participating in group dynamics

Everyone develops at different rates and has different abilities, but some individuals can find it quite difficult to learn new skills and interact with others, and may be suffering with an intellectual disability.

People with an intellectual disability can benefit greatly from receiving proper care and extra support with daily tasks. Through a tailored support plan they can achieve a greater sense of independence and live a lifestyle of their choosing.

Here at ANC we’re passionate about building a personal connection with our clients and providing tailored support to suit their needs. We offer a range of support services to help people with intellectual disabilities including; daily living, socialising, independent living, employment and group activities.

Our experienced consultants will design tailored supported living programs that determine the best combination of support services, and continuously assess and adapt to maximise the benefit provided to the individual.
